Daughters of Change

Celebrating Women in Their Second Act

Episode Summary

In this episode I talk with Shelli Place & Alison Edwards – of PRIME PRODUCTIONS. We discuss how two Daughters of Change took an idea from a brainstorming session over martinis, to fruition - creating a second act for women in theater. Alison and Shelli are both seasoned actors and the co-founders of Prime Productions in Minneapolis. Women over 50 consistently find themselves marginalized in their storytelling. They are too often portrayed as the senator’s wife instead of the senator, a bitter old matriarch, or the butt of a joke. PRIME was founded in 2016 to address this shortage and create opportunities for the wealth of mature female talent in the Twin Cities’ theatre community. They also fill this gap by producing plays that employ mature female artists, addressing issues relevant to an aging population and putting women’s stories front and center.
